I recently had a healing conversation with my mother. In that conversation, I learned that when I share myself vulnerably, without attachment to approval, I create connection and opportunity for others to share from their heart. I learned that when I breathe into the moment, when I stay aware of my prior wounds and limiting thought patterns, I make choices based on love instead of fear. When I let go of control, I tap into the expansiveness that is available to me, to all of us.
My eyes were newly opened to how powerfully my mother is able to create her reality. She travels, she lives on an amazing property on a lake, she builds artistic creations, and she can heal herself with her mind. This last part was news to me, yet it comforted me as I am embracing my own healing abilities. It was like being welcomed into a circle of love and freedom. It deepened my acceptance of my own gifts. The adventure is always evolving.
Transformation to our highest good is a journey, not a destination. Even in my mother’s strength, she shared vulnerably that she hasn’t been able to apply her gift to her challenging thought patterns. She experiences recurring dark images running through her mind; memories that don’t feel like they are hers. I could feel her energy shift as she expressed how unpleasant and disturbing she found these thoughts. I held space for her while she shared her pain.
At the end of her sharing, she asked me what I thought she should do. It was an amazing moment for me. Daughter giving mother advice at her mother’s request. I was able to share a technique I learned while studying spiritual psychology under Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick at the University of Santa Monica. It is a beautiful process that can help you release an unwanted thought pattern, traumatic memory, or limiting belief. My classmates at USM affectionately called the process “write and burn”.
‘Write and burn’ is a simple process that goes like this: First, collect a notebook and pen. Also, collect a metal fire retardant bucket and a lighter. Next, go to a place you know you will not be disturbed for 15 minutes or more. Light a candle. You are ready. Begin with calling in the light and asking for guidance. I say something like, “Great heart of the universe, I call myself forward into your light and loving. Thank you for this opportunity to release these thoughts I have been struggling with today. Help me let go and move beyond this struggle, in the highest good of all concerned. Thank you.”
If you are open to this process, it allows you to experience a major shift in your life. At the end of 15 minutes of writing, should you feel complete, set down your pen. It is important not to re-read what you have purged. Thank the universe for assisting you today. Again, ask that you are able to release these challenging thoughts. Blow out your candle and take out the pages you have just written. Now, it is time to grab your metal bucket, paper and lighter. Find a safe place outdoors to shred and burn what you have just purged. You may continue to thank the universe for helping you release everything on those pages. Some of us need to do the write and burn process many times until we shift our energy off what has been disturbing us. Some people only need this process once and they are able to release what didn’t serve them any longer.
I am curious to know what comes up for you when you consider a process like this. Are you open to this experience? Can you give yourself 15-30 minutes to release something that is no longer serving you? I’d love to hear your thoughts and reflections.
I see you in your freedom and in your truth. Please let me know if I can be of service to your evolution. If you would like to be held energetically through a calming, meditation-like Reconnective Healing session, I am here. To schedule click HERE.
