How do you handle criticism from others? How about the criticism in your own head?
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel as though the critical voice aims to tear me apart. To create some ease with addressing this voice in the head, let’s call her “Critical Kate”. She babbles on about how I didn’t complete all of the tasks I set out to do today. She judges my performance in most things as subpar. She is loud. She is cruel. She is also sad and hurting.
Don Miguel Ruiz speaks about using “the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.” He asks that we be impeccable in our expression with ourselves and with others. These words come from the first agreement in his book, ‘The Four Agreements’.
Having a critical recording in your head is the opposite of using your voice to speak lovingly. The criticism within us tends to show up in our relationships. If we cannot give grace and compassion to ourselves, how can we express those attributes with others?
I’d love to share with you how I’m moving beyond my story of self-judgment and criticism. I am here to share these 10 micro-steps so that you can peel back the voice of criticism and launch forward into a life of compassion, optimism and leadership.
